Climate Health Stewards

Be a leader - be a climate health steward!

Welcome to the Montana Climate Health Stewards program!
As we all know, this is an “all hands on deck” moment for our climate, and we've seen how passionate health professionals can change things for the better in our clinics, courtrooms, and communities. That's why we've created this group: so all health professionals can join forces to protect our patients from the unhealthy effects of climate change. If you've heard about our increasingly unhealthy climate and feel the urge to "do something," this group is for you!
Sign up below to become a founding climate steward and change Montana for the better.  No obligations, but a pledge to try.
Some climate stewardship inspiration (there are many more ideas too):
Make our health system more climate-friendly:
  • Sign your practice up for My Green Doctor, which walks you through building a more efficient practice.
  • Take a look at Practice Greenhealth's resources
  • Host our health & climate banners in your clinic or hospital.
  • Commit to walk, ride your bike, or take the bus to work at least 3 times a week.
  • Ask your hospital administrators to sign the HHS Pledge to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Protect Montanans from the unhealthy effects of climate change:
  • Fly the EPA's Air Quality Flags at your organization or with a community partner. We provide flags and pole!
  • Find out your community's safety plans for extreme heatwaves and wildfires and get involved (hand out air filters, create safe public spaces with air conditioning, or even become a Red Cross volunteer).
  • Talk about climate change and its' unhealthy effects with your patients -- especially those with lung or heart conditions, pregnant folks, and parents, as these are some of the most affected groups. We are one of the most trusted sources of climate information!
  • Have climate/health related information at your work site for patients - check out our resources
Advocate for a healthy climate as a trusted health professional:
  • Feel confident talking about climate change and earn CME credits at the same time - take our free, self-paced Climate Change & Human Health in Montana course, attend a conference or a webinar.
  • Have a personal story about climate affecting your practice? Write a letter to the editor or an op-ed about climate and health for your local newspaper or for the MT Climate Stories site we co-sponsor.
  • Testify when climate/energy issues come before the legislature of local government. We have experience with this and can help you through it if it's your first time!
  • Sign a climate and health-related petition
MTHPHC is grateful for the continued leadership of the foremost authorities on climate health in this place: the Selish, Ql̓ispe,& Ksanka, Niitsitapi (Pikuni), Annishinabe (Ne-i-yah-wahk), A’aninin, Nokado & Nakona, Lakota & Dakota, Tsetshessthase & So'taa'eo'o, Apsáalooke, and Annishinabe/Metis (Little Shell Band) nations. We endeavor to follow their examples, remembering those who have passed before us, and caring for future generations.
